Rocks from Space were formed at the birth of our solar system around 4.5 billion years ago. Space rocks are pieces of material that have survived their fall to Earth from outer space. They are named after the nearest place to where they fall or found. Often covered in a thin black crust called fusion crust which formed where the surface of the meteorite has melted through frictional heating as it came through the atmosphere. Only the outermost layer of the meteorite melts, the inside remains the same.
