A nice fragment of an oriented meteorite with needles of fusion
artifacts on the flow separation between front side and back side.
From finding location: APE14-2007
Found: 19.07.2007
Weight of the fragment: 3,07g
Total weight on find location: approx. 25 g
General information:
The fall event occurred on 10. May 2007 shortly before 8.00 pm (CEST)
in central Spain. This bolide produced intense explosions and vibrations
in the region of La Mancha. After that on the sky there was an
appearance of a meteor cloud, which was formed like a double helix. At the
end of this cloud the meteoroid completely had burst and the eye
witnesses could see a falling debrital cloud . Thomas Grau was interviewing the
witnesses two weeks later and so he could determine the drop area. On
3. June 2007 he found the first of until now 18 known meteorites. The
meteorite event was presented at the Meteorides2007 conference in
Barcelona for the first time. One could see the first five meteorites also
at the Ensisheim Show. At present a TKW of approx. 220g is found. The
labelling of the fall "La Mancha" is a provisional and internal name.
Also the scientific examinations of the material are only on their way.
Probably It seems to be a meteorite type Eukrit meteorite. The material
shows indications of a near-surface Regolith breccia of an asteroid.
