Rocks From Space Picture of the Day                                                          March 14, 2007
Sikhote Alin, Vladivostok, Siberia, IIAB coarse octahedrite. At 10:38 on a clear winters day on February 12, 1947 an intense fireball, brighter than Sun, appeared north of the Sikhote Alin mountains. It announced the beginning of an event that todays scientist call the most interesting meteorite fall of the 20th century. Picture shows the trailing edge of a 3.68 kg shield shaped individual.
