Rocks From Space Picture of the Day

Colored front page lithography of the Italian Sunday news paper La Domenica Del Corriere titled "A Mountain Falls From The Sky". The frightening scenery shows a meteorite triggered tsunami hitting the Japanese coast. The gigantic asteroid-sized meteorite can be seen darkening the sky in the upper half of the drawing. Of particular interest is the date of the issue: March 16, 1947. The semi-fictional event most probably refers to the fall of the Sikhote-Alin meteorite north of Vladivostok on February 12th the same year.
